Leading from the front in the cleaning and hygiene sector
01 December 2021 Category: Nviro NewsBrian started with Nviro in October 1999 and was appointed to Managing Director in 2005, before becoming the owner of Nviro in 2018. With nearly 25 years at Nviro, Brian has continued to embed his passion, while trying to improve the cleaning sector; whether this was bringing attention to the importance of frontline cleaners, explaining why they should be paid fairly, or raising awareness the important role cleaning and hygiene plays to wellbeing and mental health.
Brian led the way and worked with The Living Wage Foundation and in November 2021, Nviro were officially recognised as a Real Living Wage Employer, becoming the first large employer within the cleaning industry in the UK to pay all employees the Real Living Wage as a minimum. Brian continues to work with the Real Living Wage Foundation to lobby for fair play and positive change.
With the launch of Nviro Heroes’ Day, Brian was so proud of our cleaners during the pandemic that he established a Thank our Heroes campaign. Along with other Senior Leadership Team members, Brian visited 182 employees and personally thanked the cleaners for their hard work and commitment throughout the pandemic and presented them with their ‘Frontline Hero’ badges.
Brian also participated in an expert panel within an issue of industry recognised publication, Education Business. Brian is leading the way in making a difference to the cleaning industry by promoting professional cleaning services within the education sector.
Brian influence has inspired colleagues throughout Nviro, while mentoring staff and supporting them. John French, Deputy Managing Director said, “His mentoring went further to help develop my understanding of the responsibilities of a statutory director to our staff, clients, building users and key stakeholders, ensuring that we were not delivering cleaning at any cost – but that we were maintaining our core values”.
Dione Pereira, Regional Service Director, added, “Mentoring from Brian meant seeing things from a different point of view, preparing for tomorrow and step away from the challenges of today. Brian challenged many of the obvious blind spots and fostered new perspectives, but at no point did Brian prescribe actions or outcomes”.
