Changing Hygiene Solutions – FAQs on Surface Enhancers
In order to reduce costs for cleaning at this time, your cleaning company Nviro have suggested some changes to the cleaning specification that will help keep your building clean, hygienic and safe but reduce costs.
Nviro are going to be using surface protection and surface enhancer chemicals which have a range of benefits. Here’s some more information:
Surface Enhancer services
1. What is a surface enhancer?
A Surface enhancer is a chemical that can be used on soft and hard surfaces. These are some of the benefits:
- On soft surfaces, the enhancer acts as a ‘scotch guard’, so it protects the fabric and curtains from stains and the furniture and carpet maintenance such as chewing gum removal easier.
- Hard surfaces refer to any surface in a building such as tables, ledges, windows, sinks, etc. A surface enhancer can be used on any material, such as porcelain, laminate, natural wood, slate, stone etc.
- It can also be applied to glass and has great benefits in areas such as changing rooms where you get a build-up of scale.
- On hard surfaces, the enhancer will effectively leave a thin layer of polish, which will result in surfaces being easier to clean, looking more aesthetically pleasing, and increasing the life span of furniture, this thin layer won’t make the floor slippery
2. How long will this last?
This protection lasts for 60 days. After 60 days, the coating becomes less effective but is still working. However, we will re-apply the surface enhancer every 60 days or each half term depending on your requirements.
3. How is this going to help our educational establishment?
Your surfaces will look cleaner and will be easier to keep clean. Any liquid can be wiped off easily and surfaces look enhanced despite not being cleaned daily.
4. I don’t see the cleaners around as much. Is my building still safe?
Your janitor or cleaner will be cleaning the areas which are being used regularly but won’t be carrying our daily cleaning in areas that don’t look dirty or unclean. This helps us to manage our workload and keep costs down.
5. Why haven’t we done this before?
These chemicals have been used in other sectors for a decade but are new to the educational sector.
6. Does the product have a smell, is it sticky and will I feel it in my hands?
This product is applied on the surface to protect the area; however, it will dry quickly, and you will not feel any stickiness. It doesn’t have any smell and you won’t be able to feel it on the surface.
7. How do we know when an area is protected?
We will provide a door hanger on classrooms and offices letting you know that the protective coat will be sprayed within the next 24 hours. We ask you to remove all personal items from the desk and tables to avoid damage. After the coating is applied, we will use a door hanger advising the area has been protected. But the room can be used immediately.
8. Door handles will be used daily. If they are not cleaned daily, won’t they become dirty?
Even though touch points are not cleaned each day, the protective and enhanced service protects the surface for 60 days and so germs won’t be passed on by multiple people touching door handles.
9. How do you know this works?
We use these products in our own offices, and we can see the difference they make to the surfaces. We know they are effective because we’ve used them ourselves.
